Upendo is the home with the sweetest children in this world! Feel free to explore our site and learn about our children's centre, karibu! Upendo Children's Centre is an orphanage in Nyeri, Kenya. Upendo Children's Centre was founded on February 2007 by the Kenyan Jackson Wachira and the Dutch Tessa Janssen who both previously worked and volunteered in another orphanage in Thika. Jackson Wachira is a social worker in Kenya and Tessa Janssen has a degree in teaching in the Netherlands.

Upendo Children's Centre was founded in February 2007. Upendo is catering for children aged between a few months and the age that they leave to live on their own, just like in a regular family. The children are desperately in need of parental care. Most of these children are orphans, others neglected, abused or abandoned by their parents and family members. Upendo is offering a shelter, food, clothing, education, health care, guidance, counseling and above all 'Upendo', Love! It also offers guidance and counseling to the parents and relatives and guardians of these children. We keep in good contact with their families.

We also wish to do some rescuing mission, visiting and feeding street families and street children and besides this do field work in the surrounding slums and villages.Currently Upendo is being run by a dedicated team.

Upendo wishes to co-operate and network with the Children's Office, police and the Social work Department of Nyeri District. Also included is the Nyeri Provincial General Hospital, other Children's homes and the society and church around Upendo.

We believe our charity work shall make these children responsible and able to positively face the future ahead of them.
